Camp Marie

Camp Marie

1025 County Highway, Route 110, Broadalbin, NY

Welcome

Anthony and I love spending our time on, near, or in the water with friends and we love sharing our space.

It is best described as glamping...

The house is a 4-season cottage with internet (but bad cell service).  There are 3 bedrooms, with 4 beds, with 1.5 bathrooms.  The property is directly on the water with a fairly long lawn to the beach.  The water gets deeper gradually, the beach is rocky up top and gets sandy as you go out.  It is not mucky.

We have river tubes, floats, and some water toys. As well as a fire pit and lawn games for relaxing outdoors.  Dogs are always welcome at our camp.  However, there isn’t any fencing on the property.  Our dogs, Maddie and Kona, typically stay in the backyard with us.  Please note that fireworks frequently go off sporadically around the lake during the summer months.  For their safety, we keep our dogs inside at night.

Packing

Mosquitoes can be pesky in the evenings, so be sure to pack some clothes to protect yourself from bites, like shoes with socks or long pants.  If you’re a fan of water shoes at the beach, bring those too!  All bedding, towels, bug spray, and sunscreen will be provided, so you only need to bring these items if you have a strong personal preference.

Parking is available in the driveway as well as on our front lawn (we do this often).  Please do not parking on our neighbor’s property for any reason.  If additional space is needed, you are welcome to park in the backyard.  However, note that our septic tank is located next to the shed, so be sure to park beyond that area.  You are free to park anywhere else on the property.

Sacandaga Lake is a truly unique place in the Adirondacks. We have wonderful neighbors, and we always strive to be courteous to one another. This includes being friendly while respecting each other’s privacy, keeping our dogs with us, and avoiding parking on others’ property.

The lake has a laid-back, “live and let live” atmosphere, occasionally accompanied by a rowdy weekend crowd. There are no regulations or restrictions on boats or motor sizes. Drinking and driving are unfortunately common; I mention this not to condone reckless behavior but to emphasize that personal safety is your responsibility.

While paddleboards and kayaks have the right of way, it’s crucial to stay aware of your surroundings, particularly in areas with heavy boat traffic, such as around Sand Island.

Additionally, the lake conditions can change quickly.  Keep your eye on the weather if you will be heading out far from shore.

The Great Sacandaga Lake

The lake we enjoy is actually a man-made reservoir with a controlled dam to regulate the water levels of the Hudson River and prevent flooding/ dry spells downstate.  It is typical for the water levels to be high in early summer and taper off in late summer.  Because of this by the end of August there is significantly more beach area.  The lake has an annual tradition of bonfires on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

Our property ends fairly high up, near a post in the yard, and the property beyond that belongs to the reservoir (but it never floods that high).  We hold the lease on the land between the post and the water, so it is exclusively ours.  The same is true for our neighbors.
